A man has been arrested for brutally murdering a father-daughter duo during a robbery and a woman who resisted his rape bid, police said on Saturday, describing him as a 'psycho-killer'.

Kamal Kishore, in his late 20s, was arrested late on Friday from Barra locality.

He murdered his victims by hitting them with a pestle.

"As of now, I can only tell that in the three killings, Kamal Kishore repeatedly attacked the victims with a pestle. The modus operandi involved in the three murders indicates that the youth is a psycho-killer," Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Ashfaq Ahmad told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.

"In all the three cases, after committing the crime, Kishore locked the main gates of the victims' houses," he added.

Kishore killed Shakuntala, 30, in Naubasta area Thursday, while Suraj Prajapati, 32, and his four-year-old daughter Saloni were murdered around 20 days back.

"After killing the father-daughter duo, Kishore escaped after locking the main gate of their house from outside. On the information given by him, we recovered the two decomposed bodies from a tin box inside the house last night. It appears the two were killed around 20-25 days ago," a police officer said.

"In his statement, Kishore has said that he killed Shakuntala for resisting rape, while the father and daughter were killed with an intention of loot," he added.

According to police, Prajapati's neighbours did not suspect anything was amiss as they thought the father and daughter were out of town, which is why the murder was not detected for so long.

However, in Shakuntala's case, her husband Ravendra Mishra approached the police after he found his house locked.
