Punjab cops helped car robbers?
The arrest and interrogation of four members of a gang comprising national-level sportspersons allegedly involved in robbing luxury vehicles led the Punjab police to probe the role of its own police officials in the incidents.
Following the arrest of the gang members, it came to light that they were helped by certain police officials of Ludhiana and Amritsar in return for money, a local senior police official said.
Some police officials from Amritsar were called here in connection with their alleged help to the gang which also used the luxury cars to rob traders at gunpoint.
A local senior police officer said a detailed report will sent it to the Punjab DGP and senior police officers of Ludhiana and Amritsar.
Sources said the arrested gang members had revealed that they paid a bribe through a tout in Amritsar to get an FIR registered under sections pertaining only to theft of a Honda Civic car, while the same car was already shown as being robbed at gunpoint in Ludhiana.
