Punjab cops, NYPD will share expertise
The Punjab police and the New York Police Department signed a formal agreement to share policing and counter-terrorism expertise through joint training programmes on Thursday, a day after terrorists struck Mumbai again.
The decision was mutually endorsed during a meeting between state officials and a four-man NYPD team led by Paterson a(NY) police chief William G. Fraher in chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s offices on Thursday morning.
A state government spokesman said the exchange was aimed at “making the Punjab police more responsive, people friendly and professionally skilled”.
Evidently interested in Punjab’s own success in tackling the two-decade-long Khalistani insurgency, the NYPD representatives felt Punjab had “a good baseline to achieve good policing”.
