Punjab govt goes all out to woo voters
The Punjab government is going all out and doing everything to woo voters before reaching the finishing line of its term. The state is raining sops for government employees, religious monuments are being dedicated to public and mega-industrial project are being approved like never before.
In the last one month, the Sriomani-Akali Dal BJP alliance has done all this with an eye on elections. Early this month, otherwise cash-starved, the Punjab government has announced a pre-poll bonanza to its employees.
The government decided to regularise the services of all daily wage workers. it has also decided to extend pensionary benefits to all its employees on completion of 25 years of service instead of the 33 year currently.
For women employees, the government has decided to introduce a special child care leave for one year, in addition to the maternity leave. The state, which otherwise claims that it has failed to get big investments, seems to have become really proactive on industrial front as well. It has approved seven new industrial projects on Friday worth `2,400 crores.
