Punjab polls: Indira assassin's son to enter fray
Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, son of Beant Singh, one of the two assassins of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, will contest the upcoming Punjab assembly election as an independent.
He will try his luck from Bassi Pathana reserve constituency in Fatehgarh Sahib district.
The ruling SAD-BJP alliance has fielded Nirmal Singh, a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, from this constituency.
Sarabjit Singh told reporters here today that he was fully prepared to contest the election.
SAD (Amritsar) had yesterday announced Dharam Singh Kalaur as its candidate from Bassi Pathana.
Sarabjit had unsuccessfully contested the Punjab assembly poll from Bhadaur in 2007 on SAD (A) ticket.
