Punjab will give women land rights
Punjab’s council of ministers on Monday approved key amendments to the statute book to make the state’s land laws gender neutral.
Proposed changes to the Punjab Land Reforms Act of 1972, Punjab Security of Land Tenure Act of 1953 and the Pepsu Tenancy and Agricultural Land Act of 1955 will m
ake women as eligible as men to inherit agricultural land.
Adult daughters would also be entitled for permissible area as allowed to adult sons of a landowner under the Punjab Land Reforms Act.
Daughters will also have the right to inherit tenancy rights under amendments approved to the Punjab Security of Land Act and the Pepsu Tenancy & Agricultural Lands Act.
