Punjab woman, 29, gang-raped in bus
Chandigarh: A 29-year-old woman was gang-raped by seven men in Ghuklan village, in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, on Friday night. The police had arrested six of the seven accused till the filing of this report.
According to the police, seven men had raped the woman on Friday night after abducting her from a bus in which they all had been travelling.
Gurdaspur SSP Ranjit Singh said that a medical examination of the victim confirmed rape. He said the victim approached the police on Saturday to lodge a complaint.
She was travelling from her parents’ village Jagatpur, district Pathankot, by bus. When she reached her own village, the driver of the bus, Daler Singh, and conductor Ravi did not stop the bus. Instead, they took the bus to Gurdaspur.
According to the police, the driver and conductor forcibly took the victim to a secluded place where five other men joined them. After that, all seven men took turns raping the victim.
On Saturday, the driver dropped the victim to her village from where she went on foot to her house and then came to Kahnuwan police station to lodge her complaint.
The police arrested six men including the driver and conductor. The other arrested persons are Jaswinder, alias Sunny, Jagpreet, alias Raju, Gora and Satwant Singh. On preliminary interrogation the arrested accused confessed their crime.
