QBR: Yard records Patel statement
The Scotland Yard police (UK) has reportedly recorded the statement of London-based businessman Ashish Patel, a key suspect in the Queen Baton Relay (QBR) contract case of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) which is being probed by the CBI. The CBI will soon get his statement through diplomatic channel.
Sources in the agency said, “Earlier, Patel was not cooperating with the CBI. But today we came to know that the Scotland Yard Police recently recorded his statement in connection with agency’s probe related to the QBR. The agency will soon get his statement through diplomatic channel.”
The agency has booked Ashish Patel (director of the London—based AM Films and AM car & Van hire) and three former officials of the Organising Committee (OC) on charges of forgery and cheating in connection with alleged irregularities in payments during the QBR held in London in 2009. “Immediately after receiving Patel’s statement, the CBI will file its chargesheet in the case. The agency has booked Mr. Patel in two cases (FIRs). The first case was registered under different sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act in relation to the award of contract to London-based AM car and Van Hire Ltd at exorbitant rates”, sources said.
