The BJP has been directed by the Election Commission to send its representative on February 3 at 4.30 pm to make its submission on the issue of Union law minister Salman Khurshid’s alleged violation of the model code of conduct.

Mr Khurshid was issued a showcause notice for having declared that his Congress party would provide nine per cent reservation to minorities in government jobs and educational institutions within the existing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs, should it return to power. He had made the announcement at a rally in Farrukhabad while campaigning for his wife Louise Khurshid on January 8. Even after replying to the showcause notice on January 12, he sought a personal hearing from the EC.
