Radia tape leak probe ordered
The government has ordered a probe into the leaking of recorded tapes of conversations between corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, her clients and certain journalists, among others. Home ministry sources said the probe would be conducted by the Intelligence Bureau and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and will focus on how the “secret” tapes were leaked and who first accessed the tapes.
Though the secret tapes had come into the public domain some months ago, government sources revealed that the inquiry was prompted after certain media groups recently published transcripts of the same.
“The IB and CBDT will verify the sourcing of the leaked documents. The agencies will probe who all had access to these tapes and documents,” a government official said. The probe will also focus on who first accessed the secret documents. “This will be crucial to establish whether it were the court documents that were accessed or whether the secret documents and tapes got leaked from the government agencies concerned,” the official said.
