Rahul discusses pacts, strategy with leaders
The issue of alliances, early resolution of Telangana, growing role of regional parties and strategy to be adopted to check political opponents figured in the day-long meeting Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had with party chief ministers, CLP leaders and Pradesh Congress chiefs here on Friday.
The meeting in the party’s “war room” at 15, G.R.G. Road here not only discussed the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation but reviewed the political situation in each state ahead of Assembly elections in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Delhi, and the general election.
Congress general secretary Janardan Dwiv-edi said 49 leaders were invited and 46 attended. Thirty-two leaders took part in the deliberations and the rest would speak Saturday.
UP, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa are the key states where the Congress’ fight has been with regional parties. UP CLP leader Pradeep Mathur told reporters that Mr Gandhi, during his intervention, viewed that the party leaders must connect with the people and end factional fights. Mr Mathur said the role of regional parties was also discussed.
