Rahul exhorts youth: Go fight poverty, corruption
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, noting that corruption had virtually seeped into the nation’s political system, on Monday declared his party would show “zero-tolerance” towards it.
Addressing a two-day national convention of 8,000 elected Youth Congress office-bearers, Mr Gandhi urged young people to join the fight against poverty and corruption and to cleanse the system. The convention is being held ahead of Assembly elections in five states, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
Mr Gandhi has already made corruption an electoral plank in UP. “People in this country talk about corruption. But the biggest corruption is within the political system. That can be eradicated only if more and more youth join the political system,” he said.
Calling for a war against poverty — “garibi ke ladai ladhe”, Mr Gandhi exhorted them: “Go to the poor, underprivileged and others, reach out to them. Hold their hands, get to know their problems. Then fight for them.”
