Rahul joins UP farmers’ land stir in Noida, later arrested
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi created a furore in political circles when he reached Greater Noida’s violence-hit Bhatta Parsaul village in the early hours Wednesday, riding pillion on a motorcycle, where he sat on an “indefinite” dharna with the farmers and vowed not to desert them till their demands were met.
The Mayawati government, taken unawares, at first lifted Section 144 CrPC imposed there after Saturday’s violence, but later reimposed it at Bhatta Parsaul late Wednesday night and arrested Mr Gandhi as a “preventive measure” for violating the prohibitory orders. Congress leaders Digvijay Singh, Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Raj Babbar were also arrested along with him.
