Rahul listens to farmers at Aligarh rally
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi joined hundtreds of farmers at the “Kisan Mahapanchayat” (farmers rally) held here on Saturday and listened intently to the grievances and issues they raised.
Gandhi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Numaish Maidan, where farmer representatives tied him a “pagri” (traditional headgear). He sat with Congress leaders to listen to farmers who spoke from a specially erected podium about their problems. The Kisan Mahapanchayat is the culmination of a four-day march by Gandhi to protest land acquisition in Uttar Pradesh.
He started his march from Bhatta-Parsaul villages in Greater Noida on Tuesday and covered nearly 70 km. Congress leaders present at the rally include state Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi and union ministers Sachin Pilot, R.P.N. Singh and Beni Prasad Verma.
