Rahul to unfold poll plank in UP
The Congress on Friday, though refrained from going into speculation about AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s larger role in the party, made it clear that the young leader will “unfold” electoral plank at Phoolpur in Uttar Pradesh on November 14 to project the oldest political outfit as an alternative to the misrule of the Mayawati-led BSP in the state.
When asked to share the poll-plank of the party in UP, which Mr Gandhi will unveil during his rally in Phoolpur on November 14, AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “From there the Congress is set to begin its march towards giving to the people of the state an alternative to the misrule of the Mayawati government.”
On the issue of possible elevation of Mr Gandhi in the party, Mr Tewari said, “The general secretary and media department in-charge of the AICC (Janardan Dwivedi) has already responded to it. I have nothing more to add.”
The spokesperson’s response came following a question on the media reports that Mr Gandhi may give up charge of the Youth Congress on November 24, when the two-day national executive of the Congress youth body begins in the national capital.
Against the backdrop of persistent reports that he may be elevated to the position of working president of the Congress, Mr Dwivedi had said a few days back “there is no suspense about it. He (Rahul) has a role, which is increasing constantly”.
