Railways has become 'dry cow': Lalu Prasad Yadav
The Indian Railways is like a cow that neither gives milk nor bears calves. So says former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday.
Declining to comment on the railway budget 'for political reasons', Lalu Prasad said: "Indian Railways is the lifeline of the country. From being a surplus organisation during my term, it has now become a dry cow, which neither gives milk nor calf."
He said he did not increase rail fares when he was the railway minister although the railway surplus was over Rs.7,000 crore.
"The budget during my period brought big relief to the people. Even Mamata Banerjee accepted this," he added.
Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday announced a hike in rail fares after a gap of 10 years.
