Railways to join Biennale, installation at Junction
Kochi: The Indian Railways is planning to tie-up with the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in a bid to convert the Ernakulam Junction railway station as a tourist destination.
Thiruvananthapuram Railways Divisional Manager Rajesh Agarwal said in a press meet in Kochi on Friday that after discussions with Biennale officials, he is set to exhibit one of the installations at the railway station.
“Railway stations at cities like Moscow, Paris and London have artistic installations which depict the culture and lifestyle of the respective countries. This could be followed here too by displaying Indian ethnicity in an art form.
A railway station being a place which thousands of people visit every day, it is an ideal place to exhibit an art installation,” Rajesh Agarwal said here.
The Railways is also planning to rope in the state government and local self governments into the project.
Alapuzha and Thiruva-nanthapuram central railway stations will also be chosen as platforms to exhibit art installations at a later stage, according to the railway divisional chief.
“People arriving at each station will get to know about that place and its culture. The works will be kick-started soon,” the Railways Divisional Manager added.
However officials of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale refused to comment on the proposal by Indian Railways.
