Rain triggers landslide in Maha, HP & UP
Torrential rains triggered landslides in Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, throwing normal life out of gear, even as showers eluded the national capital for another day on Sunday.
Konkan Railway services collapsed as trains were stranded in Ratnagiri district after a portion of the rail track caved in on Saturday night following incessant rains for the last two days.
About 1,500 stranded passengers were later shifted to nearby Adavli station through road. Landslides were reported from Nivsar area while 50 villages in Kolhapur district were cut off as Panchganga river is in spate. Karjat in Raigad district was lashed by 294.2 mm rainfall while Alibaug, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur and Satara received 104.7 mm, 85 mm, 51 mm and 30.3 mm of rains respectively. The Met Office warned heavy rains will hit many places in coastal Andhra and Telangana regions.
In the northern belt, two person perished in landslides triggered by downpour at various places in Himachal Pradesh.
A number of houses collapsed in the landslides in Kanlog area in capital Shimla which was lashed by 72.3 mm overnight rains.
Intermittent rains disrupted normal life in Dharamsala, Solan, Nahan among other places as roads were blocked due to the landslides. Dharamsala was wettest in the region with 86.4 mm rains, followed by Kasauli 79 mm, Solan 68.6 mm, Dharmapur 66 mm, Nahan 60 mm, Sundernagar 36.7 mm Jubbarhatti 22 mm and Sandhol 19 mm.
The day temperatures dropped by a few notches with Shimla recording a high of 20.6ºC. Elsewhere in the hilly state, the maximum stood at 30.9ºC in Bhuntar, 30.5ºC in Sundernagar, 30.4ºC in Mandi, 28.7ºC in Solan, 23.4ºC in Kalpa and 23.8ºC in Dharamsala. However, rains continued to elude the national capital where both the maximum and minimum temperature settled above normal. The city recorded a high of 34.9ºC, a notch above normal, while the minimum was 28ºC, also one degree above normal.
