Rains lash North India
New Delhi: After toiling under hot and humid condition, most parts of North India witnessed moderate to heavy showers leading to a pleasant weather while four persons lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh due to rain-related incidents.
The national capital got a respite from a long spell of heat and humid condition after rains drenched many parts of the city on Tuesday. Delhi received 32.8 mm rainfall. The maximum temperature was recorded at 35.1 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 28 deg C. Humidity level hovered between 69 and 95 per cent. Moderate to heavy showers lashed several parts of UP where major rivers were in spate.
Four people, including two children, perished in Bahraich district as southwest monsoon remained active in eastern parts of the state, officials said. The Central Water Commission said major rivers were flowing above the red mark at a number of places in the state.
The Ganga river was flowing close to the danger mark from Fatehgarh to Kanpur and Sharda above the red mark at Palia Kalan, it said. The Ghaghra river was rising menacingly at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia.
Meanwhile, several parts of Himachal Pradesh were also lashed by rains as monsoon remained active in the state. Local Met office has warned of heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in the state during next 72 hours and rains and thunderstorms at many places.
Various parts of Punjab and Haryana were also lashed by rains resulting in a dip in mercury. Patiala in Punjab recorded maximum rainfall in the region at 149 mm where maximum settled at 33.5 deg C, Met office said here on Tuesday.
Amritsar had a rainfall of 7.6 mm with mercury at 34.4 deg C while industrial city of Ludhiana had a maximum of 33.4 deg C. In Haryana, Ambala and Karnal received rainfall of 87.6 mm and 72.6 mm while maximum was recorded at 32.6 deg C and 34 deg C respectively.
Among other places, Hisar and Narnaul recorded maximum at 37.8 deg and 36.7 deg C. UT Chandigarh also received rainfall at 38.6 mm while maximum settled at 33 deg C, down by one degree below normal.
Met department in its forecast said light to moderate rain may occur at few places in Punjab and Haryana in next 24 In Himachal Pradesh, Baijnath in Kangra district was wettest in the state with 65 mm rains while Palampur and Rajgarh recorded 53 mm and 50 mm rains respectively.
Jogindernagar got 48 mm rains, Dharamsala 44 mm, Sundernagr 42 mm, Baldwara 38 mm, Kahu 36 mm, Jubbarhatti 31 mm, Paonta Sahib 30 mm, Kasol and Mehre 29 mm, Nahan 28 mm, Kandaghat 25 mm, Bhoranj 22 mm and Sangraha 16 mm.
The maximum day temperatures remained one to two degree above normal with Una hottest in the region with a high of 33.6 deg C. Bhuntar recorded maximum temperature at 31.8 deg C, followed by Sundernagar 31.4 deg C, Dharamsala 28.2 deg C, Nahan 27.5 deg C, Kalpa 24 deg C and Shimla 23.9 deg C.
The minimum temperatures also stayed two to three degree above normal with Kangra hottest during the night with a low of 24 degree and Una recording minimum temperature at 22.7 degree.
Sundernagar 22.7 deg C, Bhuntar 21.8 deg C, Dharamsala 20.8 deg C, Solan 20.5 deg C, Palampur 19.5 deg C, Nahan 18.9 deg C and Shimla and Manali 17.5 degree Celsius.
A mild intensity earthquake measuring 4.4 on Richter Scale with epicentre at Lahaul and Spiti shook parts of Himachal last night at 11.19 PM, MeT office said. No loss of life or damage to property was reported.
