Raj defends Chavan, says it’s a conspiracy
Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan on Wednesday found an unlikely supporter in MNS chief Raj Thackeray. While Mr Chavan is being cornered by his own party leaders in the Adarsh scam, Mr Thackeray said that there is a conspiracy against the CM.
“If Mr Chavan is guilty, action must be taken against him. But the Adarsh scam is a conspiracy against Mr Chavan and it will be unjustified to seek his resignation unless he is found guilty,” Mr Thackeray said.
The MNS chief also blamed the media for pressurising the CM. He said, “The media should not decide whether Mr Chavan is guilty or whether he should resign or not. It will be unjust to hold Mr Chavan guilty before the inquiry in the case is over.”
When asked if action should also be taken against bureaucrats involved in the scam, Mr Thackeray replied in the positive. “The bureaucrats are very lucky that no action is usually taken against them. They only get transferred. Action must be taken against them,” he said.
Mr Thackeray was speaking after congratulating 27 corporators of his party from Kalyan-Dombivali, who had met him at his house at Shivaji Park. With regard to the KDMC election results, he said, “Now at least the Shiv Sena should stop accusing the MNS of eating into its vote bank. The MNS is an independent party and has its own ideology.”
While the Sena won 31 seats, the MNS managed to bag 27 seats in the 107-seat KDMC.
The election result analysis shows that MNS candidates ate into votes mainly for candidates of the BJP, Congress and the NCP.
Mr Thackeray said that his party would soon take a decision on forming the new civic body.
