Raj motto: Never bet on single income

One of the favourite quotes of Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra, who has confessed to betting in cricket, is: “Never depend on a single income stream. Make the investment to create a second source.” This is what he has been written on his website —www.rajkundra.net. He is apparently is inspired by Warren Edward Buffett, the American business magnate and philanthropist.

British-born Asian, a college dropout claimed in his website that he began his “entrepreneurial journey from a chance visit to Nepal which turned out to be a life changing business exercise. Here he found the now famous Pashmina shawls, which he imported by the container load and supplied all major fashion houses in London in the 90’s. Business opportunities in Antwerp, Russia, Ukraine and UAE pushed him forward into various ventures and investments across the board from mining to real estate and renewable energy to entertainment and hospitality.”
Only a few days back, Raj Kundra and his team were the complainant in the spot-fixing scam.
However, the police has claimed that Mr Kundra used to place his bets through his friend and business partner, Umesh Goenka. Delhi police chief Neeraj Kumar has described Umesh as a “bookie”. Umesh reportedly had a share in one of Mr Kundra’s steel companies. Mr Kundra has businesses related to jewellery productions, perfume, films, sports, stock trading among others. His wife and actress Shilpa Shetty also runs a charitable organisation called, “Shilpa Shetty Foundation.”
The actress, who too is under scanner for betting and might be grilled by the Delhi police, writes: “I have seen people caught up in circumstances and very difficult situations, which have never failed to pull a chord in my heart. Hence I set my heart and mind thinking and ‘Shilpa Shetty Foundation’ is the result of this process, a catalyst, with a realisation that it was now time to give back to society in my own little ways with certain issues that remained close to my heart.” Shilpa Shetty will also be working in a home production —Dhishkiyaon. The movie is produced by Shilpa and Kundra. One of his film production company is “Velocity Entertainment.”
Some of his business ventures listed on his website (www.rajkundra.net) include “Super Fight League (SFL), Kundra and Kundra, a one stop construction and interior design company, Groupco Infracom Pvt. Ltd, a real estate venture which also help in home loans, TMT Global dealing in financial marketing, Ashwini Steel, Iconic Investment and Global GT.”
Mr Kundra claims that in his “life’s journey as an entrepreneur has been my practical MBA in life!” He writes: “On the way I have made many mistakes and learnt from them. I have picked up many wise quotes on the way and my inspiration is still the great Warren Buffett.” Mr Buffett’s “teachings” inspire Mr Kundra.
On the matter of “taking risks”, he believes: “Never test the depth of a river with both your feet,” and on “investment” he feels: “Do not put all of your eggs in one basket.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
