Rajan top aide flees after bail
Ganglord Chhota Rajan’s top aide and Intelligence Bureau’s key operative Vicky Malhotra, who was granted bail after five years of incarceration at Thane jail, has flown the coop, apparently with the agency’s help on Friday afternoon. Senior officers say that Malhotra has escaped to a Southeast Asian capital, though he did not have a valid passport.
Barely three days after coming out from Thane jail after being granted bail by the Bombay high court last week, Malhotra escaped from India. Malhotra according to sources, immediately left for Uttar Pradesh and from there crossed the porous border into Nepal, leaving the Mumbai police fumbling for an explanation. The crime branch learned about Malhotra’s escape on Saturday itself but by that time the gangster had already crossed the border.
When contacted, joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy remained noncommittal about Malhotra’s escape. However, he said, “We are tracking his (Malhotra) whereabouts.”
