Rajasthan: Drunkards set to lose 50% salary
The Rajasthan government has amended its service rules by including provisos to transfer half of the salary of a government employee to his or her spouse’s account if the employee is a habitual drinker who fails to provide for his or her family.
Women’s groups have welcomed the move. The new rules will be applicable to the seven lakh government employees and officials in Rajasthan. The government amended the rules when Gandhian and ex-MLA Gurusharan Chhabra started a fast-unto-death demanding total prohibition.

The committee suggested that the service rules be amended with provisions to deposit half of the salary in the spouse’s account if the employee refused to care for the family.
The government issued a circular on the provisions in its Civil Service Rules (Conduct) to ensure the same. According to the circular, any government servant who without sufficient and reasonable cause neglects or refuses to maintain his/her spouse, parents, minor shall be liable to disciplinary action.
