Rajasthan minister quits
Minister of state for forest in Rajasthan Ramlal Jat resigned from his post following a controversy. He sent his papers to chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday evening saying he was hurt after a local newspaper published a report against him. There was no confirmation from the chief minister’s office.
A local daily published a story about the death of a woman, Parsa Devi, on September 27 in Mr Jat’s home district Bhilwara and the newspaper accused Mr Jat of interfering in the post-mortem. The deceased, Parsa Devi, committed suicide and was a relative of the minister. The newspaper reported that Mr Jat followed the vehicle carrying the body and allegedly pressurised the doctors at a government hospital to perform post-mortem in the early hours.
Mr Jat denied such allegations and termed them unfounded. He sent his resignation saying he was ready to face any probe. The sources close to Mr Jat said he was upset over the report and was ready to face any investigation. Mr Jat said it was his duty to console the bereaved family members, who are his relatives. The state government had already constituted a committee to probe the matter when the incident occurred last month.
