Rajendra Singh considers Andhra India's most corrupt state, slams Anna Hazare
Magsaysay award winner Rajendra Singh considers Andhra Pradesh to be the most corrupt state in the country.
"The development model in Andhra Pradesh is very good for a handful of people but extremely disastrous for majority of the people. The number of deprived is increasing substantially due to the development model being followed.
"Andhra Pradesh, followed by Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh, has caused maximum environmental disasters in the name of development," he declared at a workshop on 'Protection of Natural Resources' held in the city on Monday.
Mr. Singh, once part of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare’s core team, has also distanced himself from Mr. Hazare, saying that the latter sold off the anti-corruption movement when he began promoting a candidate who is more corrupt than the one he is campaigning against.
"The anti-corruption movement was meant to revive democracy, but Anna has now gone into power politics. What Anna has done shows his weakness and his dictatorial nature. He lacks leadership qualities," he said.
However, he said that although he has moved out of the core team, he remains fully supportive of the movement.
"There are some ideological differences among the core team but the government should not start thinking that it can dissolve the movement," he warned.
