Rajiv Takru vested with powers of Prasar CEO

Days after suspension of Prasar Bharati CEO B.S. Lalli, the Prasar Bharati Board on Monday entrusted Rajiv Takru, additional secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting, with powers of Prasar Bharati CEO.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the Prasar Bharati Board held on Monday. “Mr Takru, who is a nominated member of the board, may exercise all such powers and discharge all such functions vested with the chief executive officer until further directions of the board and work continually under the overall direction, control and supervision of the chairperson,” the resolution passed by the Board stated.
Mr Takru would be the officiating CEO for the interim period till an inquiry against Lalli ordered by the Supreme Court is completed. Mr Takru, an IAS officer of 1979 batch, has earlier served as director general of National Institute of Fashion Technology.
Official sources stated that the board also decided that the three-member committee that had been running the day-to-day work of the organisation under a previous decision of the board, be dissolved with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, in an effort to ensure better accountability and transparency the Board also set up five additional committees dealing with the subjects of finance, personnel, production and content, project monitoring and implementation and strategy and vision.
