Rajnath: BJP not against Bangla pact
BJP president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said that the party is also willing to resolve the border dispute with Bangladesh but agreement should not be unilateral.
Addressing public meeting here on Wednesday, Mr Singh said, “We also want that border dispute with Bangladesh should be resolved but in exchange of our land, we should also demand something from them.”
In what was the indicator of BJP diluting its stand on land-swapping deal with Bangladesh, Mr Singh said, “If we have to give our land to settle this dispute, it must be compensated. It was the responsibility of the government to see that deal was not unilateral.” It significant that Assam BJP has been opposing the land swap deal and demanding that it should revoked.
The BJP president also took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying, “Country doesn’t need an economist Prime Minister but a realist.”
Referring the improving performance of the party in the local body elections, Mr Singh said, “We will be number one party of Assam also very soon.”
