Rajnath calls up ‘sulking’ Sidhu
A day after cricketer-turned-politician and the BJP’s Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur stirred a controversy by claiming her husband was feeling “sidelined” and “ignored” by the party and was thinking of quitting politics, BJP chief Rajnath Singh called up the Amritsar MP.
Ms Kaur had also claimed that Mr Sidhu will not contest from the Amristar parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha polls.
Mr Singh called up Mr Sidhu on Friday morning and assured him of looking into his grievances. The Amristar MP is also expected to meet the BJP chief after the ongoing IPL tournament gets over.
Mr Sidhu, who was the national secretary in Mr Singh’s predecessor Nitin Gadkari’s team, was kept out the current team and was accommodated in the party’s national executive.
Sources disclosed Mr Sidhu is also keen to change his constituency following his differences with senior SAD leaders in the area, including Punjab minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia. Mr Majithia, brother-in-law of Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, is in-charge of SAD in the area. The BJP is sharing power in the state with its ally SAD.
Mr Sidhu has won from the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency thrice. His wife Navjot Kaur won as an MLA from Amritsar in the 2012 Punjab Assembly polls.
It was Ms Navjot Kaur, who is also a parliamentary secretary for health in the Punjab government, who on Thursday had posted on her Facebook page and later spoken to the media that Mr Sidhu was feeling ignored and sidelined and will not contest from the Amritsar parliamentary constituency again
