Rajnath: Cong must announce PM pick

Taking a dig at the low popularity of prospective prime ministerial candidate of the Congress, BJP president Rajnath Singh here on Thursday asked the Congress to announce its candidate for the top post.
Pointing out that the BJP has already announced its prime ministerial candidate, Mr Singh said, “The question now is that who will be the prime ministerial candidate of the Congress party?”
Daring the Congress to declare its prime ministerial candidate, Mr Singh observed, “The people want to know who will be Congress’ candidate for PM. The party must announce the name at least six-eight months before the elections so that the people can take an informed decision.”
About the possible allies in Assam, Mr Singh said, “We have left this issue of alliance to the state unit of the party. They have been asked to assess the ground realities and accordingly decision will be taken.” He also clarified that the party has not taken any final decision on the number of seats that party intends to contest in Northeast, which have 25 Lok Sabha seats.
Asking his party workers in the Northeast to improve the organisation, Mr Singh also announced that Northeast will get special attention in the vision document of the party.
Asserting that the NDA government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee had done its best for the development of the region, Mr Singh said, “I am here to assure the people of this region that my party will fulfil all the promises that it was going to include in its vision documents.”
Earlier, Mr Singh met BJP representatives from all the northeastern states and asked them to raise people’s issues to connect better with the electorate. He said the BJP has always focused on the Northeast and will continue to raise its issues. He also mentioned that the previous NDA government had undertaken various developmental works in the region.
