Rally is a farewell meeting: Mamata
Equating the CPI(M)-led Left Front government’s regime with the rule of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, Trinamul Congress chief and railway minister Mamata Banerjee described Sunday’s Brigade Parade Ground rally as “the farewell meeting” of the Left Front. Appearing optimistic about her win, she also declared that her party will hold a victory rally at the ground following “the fall of the existing Left Front ‘misrule’ in the forthcoming crucial Assembly elections in Bengal”.
Ms Banerjee continued, “Democracy ends with the party dictatorship. The dictatorship in Egypt ended after 30 years. Here, the CPI(M) rule is all set to end after 35 years. The only difference is that the CPI(M) took five years more.” She was speaking at her Kalighat residence before leaving for New Delhi.
Taking a jibe at the Left Front rally, Ms Banerjee said, “Today’s rally was not meant to strengthen the ideology of the Left Front government. It was actually a farewell meeting of the Left Front as the CPI(M) regime is going to collapse after 35 years.”
Upping her ante against the ruling party, the railway minister quipped, “Oxygen can be pumped into the alive only. But for one who is already dead, there is no benefit in providing oxygen into his body. After death, comes the doctor.”
