Ramdev says campaign will continue, reaches Haridwar

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev was back here on Tuesday after being discharged from a Dehradun hospital. He said his campaign against corruption will continue and the “sacrifices” made by his followers will not go in vain.

“The cruelty and barbarity on people committed on the night of June 4 will not be wasted,” Ramdev told reporters after being discharged from the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Jolly Grant, in Uttarakhand capital Dehradun.

He reached Haridwar around 2 00 pm. With a crowd of thousands cheering at his Patanjali Yogpeeth ashram. Speaking to reporters after being discharged, the yoga guru expressed concern for Rajbala, the Gurgaon resident critically injured during the post-midnight the police raid on him and his supporters at Delhi’s Ramlila ground June 4. He had started his fast that day to demand the recovery of black money stashed abroad by rich Indians.

Ramdev also paid tributes to Swami Nigamananda, who died in the same hospital where the yoga guru was admitted. Nigamananda had fasted for two-and-a-half months for saving the Ganga river from pollution. Ramdev said the people of India were with him. “On Tuesday, the people of this country are with us and they have woken up. I would not like to comment whether the government was insensitive.

But we will make India a spiritual power and fight till our last breath against corruption,” he said. “In future as well, we will continue our mission to make our motherland “India” spiritual and economic superpower of the world and we are hopeful that truth will triumph,” Ramdev added. He, however, refused to take questions and his close aide Acharya Balkrishna said no more press conferences will be held for the next few days. “Baba has been asked to take rest,” he said.

The aide also hailed their protest as victorious, and said the masses were with Ramdev. “We are victorious. Other than a few corrupt people, the whole country is with us in this struggle against corruption,” he said. “The whole country knows what happened on the night of June 4, the murder of democracy and attempt to murder Ramdev. History will never forget it and the country will never forgive it,” Balkrishna said.

Ramdev was admitted to the Dehradun hospital June 10, the seventh day of his nine-day-long fast, after his health deteriorated. He was being administered saline drips and was being monitored in a special ward. Doctors on Tuesday said his blood pressure and pulse rate were normal. They have advised him not to do breathing exercises and yoga — which the 46-year-old has hugely popularised in India — for a few days.

“He must take rest till he becomes totally fit. There is no special restriction on food as he takes only fruits,” S.L. Jethwani from the hospital told reporters here. Asked if another fast may cost Ramdev his health, the doctor said: “If he gets totally well and then goes for a fast, there will be no problem.”
