Ramesh Chennithala does not mind being Dy CM
Pressure is mounting on KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala to step in as the deputy chief minister even as the Congress high command has made it clear that the onus on resolving the stalemate on the fifth cabinet berth rested with the Congress state unit and the UDF.
An AICC source said that the high command’s contribution to problem resolution is a suggestion that the League be accommodated by extending the post of the Speaker.
One of the formulas doing the round was to enable KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala join the cabinet as deputy chief minister. Pressure is mounting on Chennithala to accept the formula.
In that case, Chennithala will be given the Revenue portfolio. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, now holding the portfolio, will have to shift to the Civil Supplies portfolio.
The onus is on the State leadership of the Congress to find a solution to the issue, in consultation with the League leadership.
As per one formula, Speaker G. Karthikeyan would step down and accept the post of KPCC President. Minister K.C. Joseph would be brought in as Speaker. Chennithala may enter cabinet along with Manjalamkuzhi Ali as the fifth minister of the Muslim League.
As per another formula, Karthikeyan would take over as minister. Manjalamkuzhi Ali would become the Speaker.
As per the third formula, Karthikeyan would continue as Speaker. C.N. Balakrishnan would resign from the cabinet to take over as KPCC chief.
Chennithala and Ali would join the cabinet.
