Rank holders feel let down
Chennai: More than 100 class 10 toppers along with their parents demonstrated at the school education directorate campus in Nungambakkam on Wednesday expressing disappointment at not being able to receive their free laptops from the hands of chief minister J. Jayalalithaa.
They were upset that they were unlucky while only nine top rankers had the privilege to take the laptops from the chief minister under the government scheme providing free laptops to all rank-holders in class-10 and class 12 exams.
According to Prof Rajaram, whose son Kishore is one of the toppers, the whole concept of school exam is wrong. “How can over 100 students secure top ranks? So, something is wrong in the system.
We’ve travelled from Tirunelveli to get laptop from the chief minister’s hands but now officials say that the CM will not give laptop to the second and third rank-holders. Why this confusion?” he asked. The third rank holder Subhashree from Ottanchathiram, in Dindigul district, was all tears.
“Now I return home with shattered dreams as neither the CM nor the minister gave me the laptop it was only the director of state institute of educational management and training who gave us the laptop,” she said.
