Rao hits back at TDP, BJP on corruption
Senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh Hanumantha Rao on Wednesday came down heavily on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Chandrababu Naidu, BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu and former Congress MP Jagan Mohan Reddy for accusing the Congress-led UPA government of being corrupt.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital Mr Rao said, “What right do they have to point fingers at the Congress when they themselves are corrupt to the core? We all know how corrupt Chandrababu Naidu was when he was in power. Venkaiah Naidu does not accuse Yeddyurappa and the Reddy brothers of being corrupt. Jagan Mohan made all the money in five years when his father was in power. And these people accuse the Congress, which has always acted whenever there was a whiff of corruption. Shame on them.”
Calling for probity in public life, Mr Rao advocated stringent punishment for those who are corrupt and seizure of ill-gotten wealth to rid society of corruption.
When asked for his views on the controversial Telangana statehood issue, Mr Rao sounding emotional said, “I say this with all my heart. The December 9 statement must be honoured. And I promise that our party and the high command will ensure the creation of a Telangana state.”
