Rape victim to be discharged soon
Mangalore/Manipal/Udupi: The Manipal gangrape victim, who has suffered a fracture while trying to escape from her rapists and being treated at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, is likely to be discharged in two or three days.
Kasturba Medical College dean Dr G. Pradeep Kumar and Kasturba Hospital Medical Superintendent and COO Dr (Col) M. Dayananda confirmed that the victim would attend classes shortly.
But she is yet to come out of the trauma and has refused to talk to anyone, except her family members, who have been staying in the hospital for the last one week. She has refused to give a formal statement to the police. Only Kundapur DYSP Yashoda has been in touch with the victim, sources said.
Kerala women’s panel members fail to meet victim:
Kerala Women’s Commission chairperson K.C. Rosakutty and members, advocate Noorbeena Rasheed and Prof K.A. Thulasi, were in Manipal on Saturday to talk to the rape victim from Kasturba Medical College. But they could not meet the victim.
“We did not get permission to meet her. We spoke to the doctors treating her. It is likely that she will be discharged in another two to three days,” she told reporters. She said the commission would present a report to the Kerala government on the gangrape.
“We have been in touch with the police and doctors for the last one week. We told the doctors that the victim’s relatives could contact either the commission or the government for any help,” she added.
One of the accused maybe discharged today
Anand, one of the arrested accused in the Manipal gangrape case who was admitted to hospital after attempting suicide, is likely to be discharged on Sunday. “Another accused Yogesh, who also tried to commit suicide by consuming poison, continues to be critical,” Udupi superintendent of police Boralingaiah told Deccan Chronicle.
Meanwhile, the police have not been able to speak to the girl and her formal statement has not been recorded yet.
