Rape victim takes poison in court
Harassed and pressurised by her tormentors, a victim of abduction and rape consumed poison in court on Monday in Sikar while appearing for testimony. She has been admitted to the local government hospital in Sikar. The victim’s condition is stated to be stable.
The victim, a 20-year old married woman, was taken to the local court for her statement in an eight-month-old case of abduction.
But all of a sudden she said she was raped and there were attempts to hush up the case. The victim said she did not want to be alive but wanted her tormentors to be convicted. The victim consumed the poison and fainted.
According to the sources, the victim said she was abducted by two persons and was raped.
The victim also gave a handwritten note to the magistrate narrating her story and ordeals.
“We have booked a criminal case against the persons named by the victim,” says Hider Ali Zaidi, SP, Sikar.
“I have directed to ensure justice and take action against whosoever is guilty,” said the SP.
According to the police, her in-laws lodged a missing person report on March 4, 2013. The police had recovered the victim on March 15 from Mumbai and two of her community members Sajjid and Mohsin were arrested. A case of abduction was lodged against the two persons while the victim gave her testimony under section 154 CrPc.
She did not mention rape in her earlier statement. but stated she was kidnapped. Now that she has mentioned it, we will investigate and take action against the guilty, said Dharmveer Singh, SHO, Sikar.
