Rapist MLA’s arrest permitted
Jan. 12: The Mayawati government has finally cleared the way for the arrest of the BSP MLA, Mr Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, who has been accused of raping a minor girl in Banda district. “The process for the MLA’s arrest has begun and he will soon be arrested since the preliminary report of the CB-CID finds him guilty,” the UP cabinet secretary, Mr Shashank Shekhar Singh, told reporters here on Wednesday.
Mr Singh said that the Crime Branch-CID report was a preliminary one. If the involvement of the cops is found in covering up the crime, then they would also be prosecuted.
The CB-CID found that the MLA had raped the teenager and framed her in a false theft case.
The BSP has suspended the MLA from the party till the final report is received.
The girl had alleged in her statement that the legislator and his aides had raped and exploited her. She also alleged that no action was taken against them. The legislator had gone to the jail cell to threaten the girl, after having her arrested in a theft case for lodging a police complaint alleging rape against him.
