Rashtrapati Bhavan to host US first couple tomorrow
A cultural extravaganza and special banquet will be held in the honour of US President Barack Obama at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. The US President, who is here on a four day visit, will officially begin his India-trip with a ceremonial welcome at forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday morning where he will be received by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
A 20-minute cultural evening which includes, Shillong Chamber Choir, folk musicians from Rajasthan, Indian classical artists on sitar, violin, flute and tabla will enthral the guests. While the cultural programme will take place in Durbar Hall, the banquet will be held in Mughal Gardens of the Presidential Estate.
Sources stated that a short dance performance by exponents of Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Odissi is also scheduled to take place. The cultural programme will be followed by the formal banquet. “The US President will be led to the splendid Mughal Gardens for a state dinner with President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and other senior leaders,” sources said.
Sources stated that the evening will begin with an introduction of both President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and President Barack Obama followed by speeches by the two leaders. The menu for the banquet has not yet been finalised, sources added. Folk musicians from Rajasthan and Indian classical artists on sitar, violin, flute and tabla will enthral the guests at Mughal Gardens.
