RAW keeps official away from tasks

India’s external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), has reportedly kept Major Nirvikar Singh, who worked as an ADC to former Punjab governor Gen. (retd) S.F. Rodrigues, away from sensitive assignments after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) booked him in a disproportionate assets case.

According to sources, RAW has also initiated the process of recommending his repatriation to his parent cadre. Mr Singh, an Army officer, joined the RAW recently on deputation as a director. He had worked as ADC of former Punjab governor Gen. (Retd) Rodrigues for four years.
According to sources, “Mr Singh is likely to be sent to his parent cadre soon and further action will be taken by the ministry of defence.” The CBI recently searched the residences of Mr Singh in New Delhi and Gurgaon and reportedly raided the house of his Chandigarh-based CA, who is alleged to have routed money into companies owned by Mr Singh’s family members.
“During the raids, the CBI officials reportedly recovered documents pertaining to several properties allegedly owned by the Major Singh’s family members in Gurgaon and Delhi, which are disproportionate to his known sources of income. Besides, officials also recovered documents of fixed deposits in the name of Major Singh and his family members,” sources said.
During his tenure in Chandigarh, Major Singh allegedly played an important role in allotment of multi-crore commercial projects, which are already under the scanner of the Central Vigilance Commission. The CVC had instructed the CBI to look into the alleged irregularities into the allotment of two mega projects — Film City and Amusement-cum-Theme park — of Chandigarh.
The CVC had conducted the inquiry following the allegations that the Union Territory Administration of Chandigarh had violated certain rules and procedures for clearing the two mega projects in question.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
