Rayala menu, silks for Suu Kyi
Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi will get to taste traditional Rayalaseema snacks when she visits Papasanipalli village in Anantapur on Saturday.
The entire village of about 400 people is being decked up in the best rural tradition, with toranalu and rangoli and the roads are being decorated with rangoli and swagatha toranalu.
Papasanipalli, in the seve-rely drought-hit Rayalase-ema area on the AP-Karna-taka border, was chosen for Ms Suu Kyi to highlight the successes logged by the 16 women’s groups here.
The locals overcame drought conditions by taking up organic farming and dairy development, said Madak-asira MLA K. Sudhakar.
District officials have be-en directed to offer Ms Suu Kyi, Rayalaseema sweetmeats like kajjikayalu, rava laddu and attirasalu, savouries like kodubale apart from the trademark ragi, jonna and sajji roti.
DRDA officials said the leader would be presented a Dharmavaram silk cloth.
Ms Suu Kyi is expected to arrive in the village, which is about 110 km from Ben-galuru, by 9.20 pm when the programmes begin.
Ms Suu Kyi will spend three hours in the village accompanied by Union mi-nister Jairam Ramesh, Ch-ief Minister N. Kiran Kum-ar Reddy and officials. She will interact with women and farmers about effective functioning of SHGs.
