Readers' response: Anti-Telangana stirs hit image of Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: The agitation against the division of Andhra Pradesh is disturbing the public and students. This kind of agitations end in the destruction of public property.
They also taint the the image of our country. Political leaders simply want publicity. The students are spoiling their future by going after political agitations. I request the government to take steps to counter the violence. - Mohd. Sarwar Ahmed, Hyderabad.
After the formation of Telangana disputes regarding the new capital are definitely going to crop up between Andhra and Rayalaseema.
Once the job of giving Telangana is complete, the matter of new capital will be shelved either by the Congress government itself or by the new group coming to power in 2014.
All the new states should have new capitals and Hyderabad must be made UT. Instead of spending Rs 5 lakh crore on a single new capital, if Rs 1 lakh crore rupees are allotted for each existing city in all the three regions development can be dispersed. - B. Rama Rao, Amalapuram
Hyderabad and some other parts of Telangana developed due to Seemandhrites who invested money here.
This affected development in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. The situation will continue as long as AP is not divided into 2 or 3 states.
The decision to bifurcate AP can be viewed as a blessing in disguise by Seemandhrites. They should put their demands before the high power committee for the development of their towns and other backward pockets by the establishment of industries, universities, colleges, construction of a new capital, sharing of power, river waters etc. - K. Sitaramaiah, Devarapalli
The long struggle of the Telangana people for a separate state has at last seen the light of the day. Many people have lost their lives for the cause of Telangana.
After repeated consultations, the Central leadership has realised the need to carve out a separate state for Telangana people.
The entire credit for this must go to KCR and his team. The future may not be a cakewalk for KCR as it will take a lot of time to put everything in order.
Keeping in view the social and economic backwardness of Telangana, the people of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema must cooperate and give a chance to the people of Telangana. - Sanjeeth M.,
Secunderabad
Others too will demand states
With rising demands for separate states across the country, the Congress may have to withdraw its decision regarding Telangana.
The driving force behind this demand seems to be to counter BJP on Telangana. The decision is wrecking havoc in states like Assam and West Bengal. Insurgency in border states is a threat to national security.
The Congress has to face serious consequences if it concedes to these demands for political leverage. - Anirvinna, Nellore
It is unfortunate that a few selfish politicians have achieved Telangana by emotionally blackmailing a few innocent groups, especially the student community.
This will not in any way improve that the standard of life of the Telangana people.
Telangana is no magic wand! What is more disappointing is that of Andhra Pradesh, a state of Telugu speaking people has now been bifurcated into two and thus South India will soon be having two states for people speaking the same language.
A majority of the people in the 10 districts of Telangana do not want the bifurcation. - C.S.N. Murthy, Hyderabad
I saw a cartoon a few days back on the Net which aptly describes the condition of Hyderabad. When the state was formed in 1956, Hyderabad was like a small plant and three persons were watering the plant.
In the year 2000 it had grown into a mid-sized tree with four fruits and three persons were watering the plant. In the year 2013 the plant has grown very big and is full of fruits.
Some fruits are even falling down. Out of the three, one person is now beating and trying to drive away the other two claiming that the tree belongs to him! How true the cartoon is in depicting the situation today. - Kashinath Gowlikar, Hyderabad.
The statements of KCR on the future of employees from Seemandhra are raising serious concerns. Hyderabad became a cosmopolitan metropolis long ago.
What authority does the TRS have to decide on the status of Hyderabad’s residents? Every Indian citizen has the right to live and own property anywhere in the country.
We have strong fears about KCR’s hate speeches. If this is the situation when Telangana is born, what will happen after a few years? - K.A.R. Reddy, Nellore
We have been divided, the question is WHY? Andhra Pradesh is not the private property of the Congress or the TRS. Neither of them has the right to do so.
The Congress is asking the TRS to merge with it. There is a saying, “I will pretend to beat you and you pretend to cry,” this applies to the Congress and TRS as both the parties are two faces of the same coin. If the Congress was sincere enough, it could have thrown bones to them as Indira Gandhi did.
In the name of Telangana no leader committed suicide but they made the common man do it. The Congress will no longer be able to bank on AP. - Dr Syed Fazal Mehdi, Hyderabad
