Rebels storm Assembly after Speaker's bar
Bengaluru, Oct. 11: Sixteen disqualified rebel MLAs today forcibly entered the lounges of the state Assembly, foiling police attempts to block them.
The legislators accompanied by JDS MLAs arrived in the Assembly premises in a bus.
When police declined entry to rebels and also JDS men, they forced their way triggering off pandemonium.
Earlier, Karnataka Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah barred the 16 disqualified MLAs from entering the House ahead of the crucial trial of strength.
The Assembly secretariat displayed the list of MLAs disqualified on the entrance of the west gate and said the Speaker has banned their entry.
More than 100 marshals have been stationed at the gate to ensure that none of the disqualified MLAs enter the House.
Bopaiah, in a face off with Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, who had asked him on Sunday not to disqualify any member, on Monday passed orders disqualifying 11 BJP MLAs and five independents on a complaint filed by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
