Reddy brothers questions gov
The Reddy brothers, Janardhana Reddy and Karunakaran Reddy, and the Andhra Pradesh health minister Sriramalu on Monday questioned the motives of the Karnataka governor H.R. Bhardwaj in referring the complaint of an MLC to the Election Commission.
They contented that the governor has no authority to refer the their disqualification petition to the Election Commission. They filed their replies to the show-cause notice sent to them through their counsel in the Election Commission on Monday.
Earlier a Congress MLC had filed a complaint with the governor against them stating there was a conflict of interest in their being legislators as they were involved in mining business in both Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
They contended that the action of the governor Bhardwaj is “bad in the eye of law” as he had forwarded the complaint after holding an enquiry and forming an opinion without any authority. In his reply Janardana Reddy has maintained, “On perusal of the order of reference of the governor, the only question that could be gathered is with reference to illegal mining which cannot be looked into by the Commission,” he said, adding “this notice has been an unprecedented case both for the governor as well as the Eelection Comission”. On the question of mining, he maintained that he has been into it long before he became a legislator.
