Reliance moves HC for release of Cherry’s films
Hyderabad: Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday seeking directions to the state government and the police to take steps to ensure the smooth release and exhibition of the Ram Charan Tej and Priyanka Chopra-starrer Hindi film Zanjeer and its Telugu version Toofan, scheduled to be released on September 6 throughout the state.
Reliance Big Entertainment said in court that obstacles may be put in the way of the movie’s release in view of certain statements made threatening to stall the release of the films in which Union minister K. Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Tej stars.
The company said that certain lumpen elements from different parts of AP have sought to use the ongoing political agitation in the state to wrongfully derail and stall the release of their films. This has happened in the past too.
The company told the court that it has invested several crores of rupees to produce, market and distribute both the films and has also contracted with several cinemas for exhibiting the films.
The company said there was no response to a representation made to the police authorities seeking security for orderly distribution and exhibition of the two films.
