Relook at anti-Naxal strategy

The Centre’s move to order a redeployment of Central forces during the ongoing anti-Naxal operations will be examined during the forthcoming meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security. The CCS is expected to meet within the next ten days to examine the anti-Naxal strategy in the wake of continuing Maoist attacks.
The CCS meet is also expected to review the implementation of developmental schemes in Maoist-infested areas by calling a meeting of the chief ministers of Naxal-hit states.
Ahead of the meet, Union home secretary Gopal K. Pillai will begin a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh on Monday where he will hold a high level review meeting in Raipur to take stock of the security situation, redeployment of paramilitary forces besides visiting some worst Maoist-hit areas.
The emphasis will however be on the implementation of developmental schemes in the areas. “There is a need to speed up developmental activities in such areas, a government official said. The government is planning to position helicopters at a few additional places for quick response to reinforcement and rescue needs following requests from state governments.
The home secretary and other Central officials will hold meetings with governor Shekhar Dutt, chief minister Raman Singh and other top officials.
The CRPF and state police have already agreed to realign the security forces by closing down some camps where the troops maybe vulnerable to Maoist attacks besides reducing the distance of troop posts, increasing the number of personnel in other posts.
After Chhattisgarh, a review of the security forces’ deployment will take place in Orissa, West Bengal and Jharkhand. The Central team will also visit several violence-hit areas like Kanker, Datewada and talk to security officials.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
