Report avoids directly indicting cops
The Union ministry of home affairs has received the first inquiry report on the alleged lapses by the Delhi police in its response and handling of the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old woman in the national capital on December 16, 2012.
The report, submitted to home secretary R.K. Singh on Thursday, is learnt to have avoided directly indicting the Delhi police for the alleged lapses. It, however, observed that the responses of the police and hospital could have been better. Speaking to this newspaper, Dr B.D. Athani, the medical superintendent at Safdarjung Hospital, where the victim and her friend were treated, said they gave their response to the queries.
