Republic Day parade to feature film stars
A touch of glamour would be added to the next Republic Day Parade here, with the government deciding to parade actors and actresses along with the normal display of military might and cultural heritage of the nation.
Several stars from Bollywood and elsewhere are expected to walk down Rajpath during the annual spectacle.
The information and broadcasting ministry has initiated talks with film stars of the present as also yesteryear for making an appearance at a tableaux being prepared by the ministry. The display has been planned by the government as part of the on-going centenary celebrations of Indian cinema.
Year 2012-13 is observed as the Centenary Year of Indian Cinema.
Several Dada Saheb Phalke award winners and present-day films stars are expected for the show. This will be the first attempt of the government to display the soft power along with the country’s military might. Several events are planned as part of the commemoration of the cinema centenary.
I&B minister Ambika Soni has said the National Film Awards Ceremony would henceforth be held on May 3 every year, in commemoration of India’s first film, Raja Harishchandra, released on that day in 1913.
