Return Afzal’s remains: Omar
In a significant move, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has formally asked the Centre to return the mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muha-mmad Afzal, two Kashm-iris hanged and buried in Delhi’s Tihar jail on two different occasions for two dissimilar offences, in view of the public sentiment involved.
While Guru was convicted in the 2001 terror attack on Parliament in New Delhi and hanged on Febr-uary 9, 2013, Butt was sent to the gallows on February 11, 1984, over 16 years after a Srinagar judge sentenced him to death on charges of murdering an intelligence official in the mid-1960s.
