Return to us, Buddha appeals to deserters
Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Saturday made a passionate appeal to all those who had deserted the ruling CPI(M) to extend their support to the Red flag once again. “It is only the CPI(M) which can provide succour to the poor farmers and workers. It is the CPI(M) alone which can maintain peace and communal harmony. I appeal to all those who have misunderstood and left us to return,” he added. Mr Bhattacharjee was addressing a public rally at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas.
Mr Bhattacharjee and state housing minister and local MLA Gautam Deb reminded the audience of the achievements of their 33-year-long rule.
“After a long fight, we took away thousands of bighas from the landlords and jotedars and distributed them among poor farmers. We gave power to the poor villagers by successfully introducing panchayat system. What do they who are claiming to bringing paribartan mean? Do they want to abolish the panchayat system and snatch land from the poor to return it to the zamindars?” Mr Bhattacharjee asked, scoffing at Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s slogan of paribartan.
