Revelations by ex-MHA officer crucial
Sources said revelations made by former MHA official R.V.S. Mani, who had filed the ministry’s two affidavits pertaining to the Ishrat case in 2009, are crucial. In his deposition before the CBI, Mr Mani said, “I clarify that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials had brought the information contained in the first affidavit in the shape of the draft which was finalised by the supervisory official.
Therefore my personal discretion in the matter was rather limited when I came to Ahmedabad to file the first affidavit on August 6, 2009.” The agency has named Mr Mani a witness in the fake encounter case. It is suspected that the first affidavit was dictated by a senior IB officer, sources said, adding the CBI has collected evidence to prove it.
The former MHA official said, “The draft of the said affidavit was submitted by the Intelligence Bureau and the same was discussed in the cabin of the then director (internal security) in the presence of two IB officials. I don’t recollect the name of the IB officers.” Mr Mani added.
